Deploy Required Migration Prerequisites

Create migration resources to start the migration process.

Overview

The Oracle Cloud Migrations service enables you to migrate VMware virtual machines or AWS EC2 instances to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) compute. To enable migration, you need to have access to OCI tenancy, compartments created for use, set up appropriate policies and Vault for storing credentials, create replication buckets and tags, and so on. Creation of all these migration resources is a prerequisite for initiating the migration process.

The recommended way to deploy Oracle Cloud Migrations prerequisites is by using the Resource Manager Stack provided on the Oracle Cloud Migrations Overview page of the Oracle Cloud Console. The stack includes tags that the Console detects when newer prerequisite versions, such as updated service policies, are available. When new service features are released, a stack update is provided for any additional prerequisite resources. In addition to the prerequisites, user policies and groups can also be used to enable the tenancy users to use the service. For more information, see User Policies.

Different Scenarios for Deploying Migration Prerequisites

Consider the following five scenarios while deploying the prerequisites:
Scenario Description User action
When both AWS and VMware migration prerequisites are created and up-to-date. An information block and the Review prerequisites card is displayed at the bottom of the page. Review migration prerequisites
When only a certain set of prerequisites are created. An information block and the Review prerequisites card is displayed at the bottom of the page. The Review prerequisites card lists the steps that you need to follow to create more prerequisites, and also mentions which feature has all policies created. When prerequisites for both AWS and VMware migration are not created. An information block is displayed and it prompts you to create prerequisites. You are then redirected to the stacks page for creating required stacks. Create migration prerequisites

When you need to select a compartment in order to view the state of its policies. When no compartment is selected, you are redirected to select a compartment. Select a compartment
