You can enable Diagnostics & Management for External Databases on
the External <database type> details page within the External
Database service or on the Administration Managed databases
page in Database Management.
To enable Diagnostics & Management for External Databases in Database Management:
Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
At the top of the page, ensure that the region in which you want to enable
Diagnostics & Management is selected.
Note
Cross-region monitoring and
management of Oracle Databases is not available.
Open the navigation menu, click Observability &
Management. Under Database Management,
click Administration.
On the left pane, select a compartment in the
Compartment drop-down list and
External in the Deployment
type drop-down list.
The External Databases in the compartment are listed on the
Managed databases page. These External Databases
could have been registered either in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure External Database service or in Database Management.
Note
On the Managed
databases page, in addition to enabling Database Management features for External Databases, you can also
perform the following tasks:
Click Register external
databases to register an External Database. The
option to register External Databases in the Database Management interface uses the same panel as in
the External Database service. For information, see Create a Handle for
an External Database.
Click Connect in the
Status column to connect to an already
registered External Database. The option to add a connection to an
External Database in the Database Management interface is slightly different from the panel
in the External Database service. For information, see Add a Connection.
Click Discover system and select
an option to discover External Database Systems and Exadata
Infrastructure. For more information, see Access Database Management
Administration.
In the Diagnostics & Management column, click
Enable.
Note
If you're enabling
Diagnostics & Management for a PDB, then you must first enable it for
the associated CDB.
On the Select database page of the Enable
Diagnostics & Management panel:
Review the automatically filled details such as the
deployment type, database type and name.
Select an External Database connector from the drop-down
list.
Note
If a connection is not added to the External
Database or if you want to use a different connector, click
+ New connector to add a new
connector and select it. For information, see Add a Connection.
If you're enabling Diagnostics & Management for a
database in an Oracle Data Guard configuration that contains
a physical standby database in mounted state, you must
ensure that the connector is created by a monitoring user
with the SYSDG privilege.
Select a license option.
Note
The Bring Your Own License (BYOL) subscription
does not apply to the Oracle Database Standard Edition. For
information on the BYOL subscription, see About Bring
Your Own License Subscriptions.
If you're enabling Diagnostics & Management
for a PDB, then you do not have to select a license option
as it's inherited from the associated CDB.
Click Next.
On the Review page of the Enable Diagnostics
& Management panel, review the selected database and
Diagnostics & Management feature details and click
Submit.
A View work request button is
displayed in the Feature to enable section and you can
click it to view the status of the task and associated log messages and error
messages, if any.
On the Managed databases page,
Enabled is displayed in the Diagnostics &
Management column after it's successfully enabled. On the left pane,
click Diagnostics & Management to go to the
Oracle Database fleet summary page and begin using its
features.
To disable Diagnostics & Management for an External Database, on the
Managed databases page, click the
Actions icon () for the External Database and click View features.
In the Features supported on <database name> panel, click
Disable in the Diagnostics &
Management section.
