Backup Autonomous Database
Learn how to backup an Autonomous Database using the Automatic Backup and Long-Term Backup options.
Automatic Backup
Autonomous Database(s) are backed up continuously and automatically which allow you to restore or clone your database to available timestamps within your selected backup retention period. The retention period for Automatic backups ranges from 1 day to 60 days.
You can access the Autonomous Database Backups from Azure portal or OCI console.
These are steps to access the Autonomous Database backups from Azure portal.
Azure Portal- From the Azure Portal, select Oracle Database@Azure, and then select the Oracle Autonomous Database Service link.
- From the Oracle Autonomous Database Service list, select your Autonomous Database.
- From the Overview page, navigate to the Backup section to view the details of the backup settings including Automatic backup retention, Last automatic backup, Next long-term backup, and Long-term backup schedule.
- If you want to edit your automatic backup retention, click on the retention days link.
- From the Edit auto-backup retention page, move the slider to adjust your retention day(s).
- Select the Edit button to apply the changes.
- From the left navigation menu, expand the Settings section, and then select the Backups link to view the details of your backup settings including State, Type, Retention period, Backup Started, and Retention Expiration Date.
These are steps to access the Autonomous Database backups from OCI console
OCI Console- From the OCI console, select Oracle Database, and then select Autonomous Database.
- From the Autonomous Databases list, select your Autonomous Database.
- Select the Autonomous Database information tab and then navigate to Backup section to view the details of it including Automatic backup retention period, Total backup storage and Last automatic backup.
- If you want to edit your automatic backup retention, click on the Edit button.
- From the Edit backup retention page, enter your retention day(s) into the Automatic backup retention period in days field.
- Select the Save button to apply the changes.
- Select the Backups tab to view the details of your backup settings including State, Type, Retention period, Backup Started, and Retention Expiration Date.
Long-Term Backup
Long-term backups are automatically taken and maintained by Oracle. The retention period for long-term backups ranges from 3 months to 10 years.
You can only create an ad-hoc long-term backup for an Autonomous Database of Oracle Database@Azure using Azure portal because this capability is not supported yet in the OCI console.
These are steps to create a manual long-term backup of your Autonomous Database from Azure portal.
- From the Azure Portal, select Oracle Database@Azure, and then select the Oracle Autonomous Database Service link.
- From the Oracle Autonomous Database Service list, select your Autonomous Database.
- From the Overview page, navigate to the Backup section to view the details of the backup settings including Automatic backup retention, Last automatic backup, Next long-term backup, and Long-term backup schedule.
- If you want to edit your long-term backup retention, click on the Long-term backup schedule link. From the Configure Oracle long-term backup schedule page, complete the substeps:
- Move the slider to adjust your Years (365 days), Months (30 days), and Days for Retention Period.
- Enter the date and time into the Backup date and time field.
- From the Repeat dropdown list, select your choice.
- Select the Submit button to apply the changes.
- You can review your changes from the Overview page. You can view the details of your Next long-term backup and Long-term backup schedule.
- If you want to create an ad-hoc long-term backup, expand the Settings section from the left navigation menu, and then select Backups. Select the + Create button, and then enter the following information:
- Move the slider to adjust your Years (365 days), Months (30 days), and Days for Retention Period.
- Enter the date and time into the Backup date and time field.
- From the Repeat dropdown list, select your choice.
- Select the Create button to apply the changes.
- If you want to edit an ad-hoc long-term backup, expand the Settings section from the left navigation menu, and then select Backups. Select the backup you want to edit.
- From the Edit Oracle long-term backup page, select your Backup timestamp.
- Move the slider to adjust your Years (365 days), Months (30 days), and Days for Retention Period.
- Select the Edit button to apply the changes.
- From the OCI console, select Autonomous Databases ,and then select the database you are using.
- You can view the Backup setting in the Autonomous Database Information tab, including Next long-term backup and Long-term backup schedule
- To schedule a long-term backup, complete the following substeps.
- From the ... section, select the Schedule button.
- Adjust the retention period and schedule of the long-term backup.
- The long-term backup can be scheduled as Weekly, Monthly, Yearly or One Time.
- Select the Save button to confirm.
- The new long-term backup schedule will be reflected in both OCI console and Azure portal.
- From the ... section, select the Schedule button.
You cannot create an ad-hoc long-term backup for Autonomous Database of Oracle Database@Azure from OCI console. It can only be created via Azure portal.
