You can add a HeatWave cluster to a DB system created with a shape that supports HeatWave cluster. When you add a HeatWave cluster to a high availability DB system, the HeatWave cluster is added to the primary MySQL instance.
Use one of the following method to add a HeatWave cluster to a DB system:
Use the Console to add a HeatWave cluster to the DB system.
This task requires the following:
A DB system with HeatWave cluster supported shapes. See Supported Shapes.
The DB system is not in read-only database mode. See Database Mode.
Do the following to add a HeatWave cluster to an existing DB system:
Note
If you encounter OutOfHostCapacity work request error while adding a HeatWave cluster to a DB system, see Resolving OutOfHostCapacity Error.
On the DB systems list page, select the DB system that you want to work with. If you need help finding the list page or the DB system, see Listing DB Systems - Using the Console.
The details page opens and displays information about the DB system.
From the menu at the top of the page, select Add HeatWave cluster.
Note
If HeatWave cluster is already enabled on the DB system, the menu item HeatWave cluster details is shown instead of Add HeatWave cluster.
On the Add HeatWave cluster panel, do the following:
Select a shape: Select the shape for the HeatWave nodes. Select Change shape to select a shape for the HeatWave nodes. You cannot select MySQL.HeatWave.BM.* shapes for a HeatWave node. See Supported Shapes.
Node : Specify the number of HeatWave nodes to create. The minimum is 1 node and the maximum depends to the following:
HeatWave.Free shape: 1 node
HeatWave.32GB shape: 16 nodes
HeatWave.512GB or MySQL.HeatWave.VM.Standard shape: 64 nodes
HeatWave.512GB or MySQL.HeatWave.VM.Standard shape with Lakehouse enabled: 512 nodes
HeatWave Lakehouse: Enable query processing on the data residing in Object Storage. Prior to MySQL 8.4.0-u3, HeatWave Lakehouse is supported on the MySQL.HeatWave.VM.Standard and HeatWave.512GB shapes only. See HeatWave Lakehouse.
Note
Prior to MySQL 8.3.0-u2, you must disable point-in-time recovery, high availability, read replicas, and outbound replication in order to enable HeatWave Lakehouse.
Estimate node: (Optional) Select it to estimate the number of nodes required based on the shape you selected and the size of your data. See Generating a Node Count Estimate.
