Create a New Image or a New Version of an Image

You can create a new image, or if you already have an image, you can create a new version of the image.

Create a New Image

To create a new image follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Images tab, this will show a table with all currently available images.
  2. To start the creation of a new image click on Create Image.
  3. Enter the details for the new image in the New Image Details pop up.
    • Enter an Image Name.
    • Enter an Image description (optional).
    • Ensure Platform Details are set to Linux.
    • Enter the Version Name, Oracle recommends naming the image version for easier RU identification.
    • Select the Database Release version for which you are creating this image, and select the Database Version (RU), Oracle recommends using the latest RU.
      Note

The Database Version is also called the Database Release Update (RU) and released by the database team on a quarterly basis. We recommend using the latest RU so as to be most current on the critical updates including vulnerabilities.
    • Enter the MOS Credential User name and password. MOS (My Oracle Support) credentials allow you to connect to My Oracle Support and obtain the latest images and patches. For information on setting up your My Oracle Support account and credentials see: My Oracle Support.

Optionally you can validate the credentials by clicking on Validate Credentials

Once all fields have been entered click Submit.
    Note

Patch Management currently supports a maximum of 10 parallel requests for image creation. If you reach the 10 parallel request limit, wait, and try again after some time.
  4. A new pop up will appear for the create new image request, click Close.
  5. The new image will show in the images table once the request completes. Once the image is ready, subscribe the databases to this image. Once subscribed, the next vulnerability scan will provide a report on additional patches required by the databases that are missing in this image. Should this be your case, create a new image version incorporating all the additional patches.

Create a New Version of an Image

If you already have an image created and wish to update it to the latest version follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Images tab, this will show a table with all currently available images.
  2. Locate the image you wish to create a new image, and click on the vertical three dot menu to the right. In the menu click on Create New Image Version. The Create New Image Version pop up will appear.
  3. Enter the details for the New Version.
    • Enter the Version Name
    • Select an existing version as reference
    • Enter the MOS Credential User name and Password. Optionally you can validate the credentials by clicking on Validate Credentials
Once all fields have been entered click Next.
  4. Select all patches to be applied to the new version of the image. Additionally you can manually enter any one-off patches required. Click on Check Conflicts to review any potential conflicts with the patches.

If conflicts arise, contact your My Oracle Support representative to request a Merged Patch. Once obtained, specify this in the text area for additional patches and deselect the recommended patches that are already included in the merged patch.

When no conflicts are detected click Next.

  5. Review all information entered for the new image version, if all the information is correct click on the Submit button.
  6. A new pop up will appear for the create new image request, click Close
  7. The new image version will show in the images table once the request completes.

Once you are ready to proceed with the patching cycle, mark this image version as Current, this will cause all Patch Compliance reports to assess registered databases against this image version.
