Monitor High Availability Fleet
You can monitor the High Availability and backup details of your fleet of primary and Oracle Data Guard-configured standby CDBs in Database Management.
Availability is the degree to which an application, service, or functionality is available on demand and it starts with ensuring that the database is reliable, recoverable, and safe in the event of unforeseen failures. High Availability for a database requires redundant configuration of resources using services such as RAC and Oracle Data Guard, and viable recovery scenarios that rely on database backups. The High Availability fleet summary page under Diagnostics & Management provides insights in a single-pane-of-glass view for all the primary and Oracle Data Guard-configured standby CDBs in a compartment or Database Group. This enables you to quickly identify any outliers in availability metrics or any environments at risk of data loss.
- High Availability and backup monitoring in Database Management is only available for the External Databases and Oracle Cloud Databases for which Diagnostics & Management is enabled. It's not supported for Autonomous Databases.
- Database Management supports the monitoring of the primary and standby CDBs that are a part of an Oracle Data Guard configuration. For information, see Monitor Oracle Data Guard.
To go to the High Availability fleet summary page and monitor your databases:
- Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
- Open the navigation menu, click Observability
& Management. Under Database
Management, click Diagnostics &
Management and then click High
Availability on the left pane.
The High Availability fleet summary page is displayed.
- On the left pane, select the Compartment in which your databases or Database Group resides, and then select either the Compartment or Database group option depending on whether you want to monitor the databases in a compartment or a Database Group. Note that the Compartment option is selected by default, however, if you've created a Database Group that you want to monitor, then you must select the Database group option and the name of your Database Group. For information on Database Groups, see Create and Use Database Groups.
- Optionally, add a tag filter on the left pane to filter the
list of databases. For information on:
- Tagging concepts and the permissions required to work with tags, see Overview of Tagging.
- How to filter resources using tags, see To filter a list of resources by a tag.
The following tabs are displayed on the High Availability fleet summary page and provide important High Availability and backup information for the last seven days:
- Overview tab: The tiles on this tab
provide a visual representation of the important High Availability
and backup metrics for the fleet of primary and Oracle Data
Guard-configured standby CDBs in the compartment or Database
Group:
- Last backup: Displays the status of full and incremental backups for the databases. Note that archive log backup failures are not displayed on this tile.
- Last backup time: Displays the completion time and date of the last full or incremental backup.
- Data Guard: Displays whether Oracle Data Guard is enabled.
- Backup destination: Displays the type of backup destinations configured for the databases.
- Open HA Alarms:
Displays the total number of open High Availability
alarms in the compartment or Database Group, and the
number of alarms by severity. These alarms are
created to monitor High Availability metrics such as
BackupDuration
andFRASpaceLimit
. Note that an alarm is only displayed on the Database Management Diagnostics & Management pages if the OCID of the database is specified using theresourceId
dimension when creating the alarm. You can click the number of alarms to access the Alarms panel and review the list of open alarms. For more information, see Monitor Alarms for Managed Databases.
In addition to the tiles on the Overview tab, the Databases section lists all the primary and Oracle Data Guard-configured standby CDBs in the compartment or Database Group along with information such as the status of the last full or incremental backup, backup time, backup type, and fast recovery area usage in percentage. To filter the list of databases, you can either click the options in one or more charts or select from the options listed in the Filters drop-down list. To search for a particular database in the Databases list, enter its name in the Search by name field.
- Data Guard tab: The tiles on this tab
display a visual representation of important Data Guard metrics for
the primary and standby CDBs that are a part of an Oracle Data Guard
configuration, in the compartment or Database Group:
- Top 10 databases with longest failover time: Displays the top 10 databases with the longest failover time.
- Data Guard alarms:
Displays the total number of open Data Guard alarms
in the compartment or Database Group, and the number
of alarms by severity. These alarms are created to
monitor Data Guard-related metrics such as
EstimatedFailoverTime
andTransportLag
- Monitoring status: Displays the current monitoring status of the databases that are a part of an Oracle Data Guard configuration. The monitoring status indicates whether Database Management can collect monitoring metrics for the databases.
- Fast-start failover: Displays whether fast-start failover is enabled.
- Protection mode: Displays the protection mode set for the databases.
- Transport lag: Displays the number of seconds of redo not yet available on the standby databases.
- Apply lag: Displays the number of seconds the standby databases are behind the primary database.
- Redo apply rate: Displays the amount of redo applied on the standby databases.
In addition to the tiles on the Data Guard tab, the Data Guard enabled databases section lists all the primary and standby CDBs that are a part of an Oracle Data Guard configuration in the compartment or Database Group, along with information such as fast-start failover status and protection mode. To search for a particular database in the Data Guard enabled databases list, enter its name in the Search by name field.
- Cloud backup details and
External backup details tabs: The
tiles on these tabs display a visual representation of important
backup metrics for Oracle Cloud or External CDBs in the compartment
or Database Group:
Note
In the Cloud backup details and External backup details tabs, you can select a time period in the Time period drop-down list in the upper-right corner of the page to view backup details in that time range.- Automatic backup:
Displays whether automatic backup is enabled.
Note that this tile is not available on the External backup details tab.
- Recovery window: Displays the number of days within which the databases can be recovered.
- Retention period: Displays the number of days for which database backups are retained.
- Backup destination: Displays the type of backup destinations configured for the databases.
- Backup size (GB):
Displays the size of the backups for the
databases.
Note that this tile is not available on the Cloud backup details tab.
- Total backups: Displays the total number and status of the backups for each database. In the upper-right corner of the Total backups chart, you can click the link adjacent to Total failed backups and Total failed archive log backups to filter the list of databases and only view the databases with failed backups.
In addition to the tiles on the Cloud backup details and External backup details tabs, the Oracle Cloud or External CDBs in the compartment or Database Group are also listed. To filter the list of databases, you can either click the options in one or more charts or select from the options listed in the Filters drop-down list. To search for a particular database, enter its name in the Search by name field.
