Autonomous Database
These are steps to create an Autonomous Database from the Azure portal.
- Complete the prerequisites before creating an Autonomous Database. For more information, see the Prerequisites section.
- From the Azure portal, select Oracle Database@Azure.
- From the left menu, select Oracle Autonomous Database Service, and then select the Create button to create an Autonomous Database.
- From the Basics tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, enter the following information.
- The Subscription field is a drop-downs containing the current subscription, plus any other subscriptions that your account can access.
- The Resource group field is a drop-down containing the existing resource groups.
- To create a new Resource group, select the Create new link.
- Enter a Name for your Oracle Autonomous Database Serverless instance. This name must be unique within your subscription. The value must contain only letters and numbers, starting with a letter. 30 characters max. Spaces are not allowed.
- Select the Region. The current region is automatically selected. If your subscription has access to other regions, those will be available in the drop-down list.
- Select Next to continue.
- From the Configuration tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, enter the following information.
- The Workload type is a drop-down list that provides all the options for your Oracle Autonomous Database Serverless instance. Supported workload types include Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing, JSON, and APEX.
- The Database version is a drop-down list that allows you to select the options available in the selected region.
- The ECPU count is a slider UI that allows setting the ECPU count from 2 to 512.
- The Compute auto scaling checkbox allows you to option for your Oracle Autonomous Database to scale its computing allocation automatically up to 512. By default, this is selected.
- Storage is a slider UI that allows setting the Storage allocation from 1 TB to 384 TB or 20 GB to 393216 GB.
- The Storage unit size radio button allows you to select whether your storage is allocated in GB or TB. However, for Data Warehouse workload type, the Storage unit size radio button is not available.
- The Storage auto scaling checkbox allows you to option for your Oracle Autonomous Database to scale its storage allocation automatically up to 384 TB or 393216 GB. By default, this is unselected.
- The Backup retention period in days is a slider UI that allows setting the backup retention days to vary from 1 to 60.
- The Username is a read-only field that is set to ADMIN.
- Enter a password for your ADMIN account. Passwords must not be empty. It must be between 12 and 30 characters, and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number. The password cannot contain the double quote (") character or the username ADMIN.
- The Confirm password field must match your previously entered password.
- The License type is a drop-down list of available license types, License included and Bring your own license. Select the one that is needed for your subscription.
- If you select the Advanced options checkbox, two (2) additional fields will appear, Character set and National character set. These are drop-down lists of the available character set options for your database. If you select the Advanced options checkbox, select the appropriate Character set and National character set for your database.
- Select Next to continue.
- From the Networking tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, enter the following information.
- For Access type drop-down, select Secure access from anywhere, Secure access from allowed IPs, or Managed private virtual network IP only as desired.
- For Secure access from anywhere, Require mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication is selected and cannot be changed.
- For Secure access from allowed IPs, Require mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication is unselected by default and can be selected if desired. Additionally, the Access control rules section appears with the IP address/CIDR blocks field. Use the IP address/CIDR blocks field to enter a comma-delimited list of IP addresses and CIDR blocks you wish to enable.
- For Managed private virtual network IP only, the Require mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication is unselected by default and can be selected if desired. Additionally, the Virtual network and Subnet drop-downs are required and require you to select from existing resources.
- Select Next to continue.
- From the Maintenance tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, enter the following information.
- The Maintenance patch level field provides two patch level options. These options are Regular and Early. If you select the Regular option, your Oracle Autonomous Database will be patched on a regular and as-needed basis. Regular means that the typical patch schedule is applied. If you select the Early option, your Autonomous Database will be patched on an early schedule. Early patches are applied for the Autonomous Database instance one week before the Regular scheduled patch. For more information, see View Patch and Maintenance Window Information, Set the Patch Level.
Note
- The Early patch level is available in the following regions:
- Australia East
- US East 2
- The Early patch level is available in the following regions:
- You can enter up to 10 contact email addresses for notification of unplanned maintenance events.
- Select Next to continue.

- From the Consent tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, review the Oracle terms of use and the Oracle privacy policy. When reviewed, select the I agree to the terms of service checkbox to continue. Select Next to continue.
- From the Tags tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, set one or more tags to enable easier management and tracking of multiple Oracle Autonomous Databases. For more information, see Use tags to organize your Azure resources and management hierarchy. Select Next to continue.
- From the Review + Create tab of the Create Oracle Autonomous Database flow, check the field values you have entered. Validation occurs as you enter this page, and all validations must pass for the provisioning to be started. Even if the validation passes, you may have incorrectly entered a value or values.
- Once your validations complete successfully and you have reviewed the values, select the Create button to start the provisioning process.
- The provisioning process starts. You return to the Oracle Autonomous Database@Azure page. You can see the status of your provisioning processes. After the database is created, you can find it in the list.
